UANL Talent is on board for the Air and Space Program

Aeronautical engineering also works on sustainability projects. This is the proposal of Laura Guajardo Villarreal, a student at the UANL School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering.

She will have a place at the Air and Space Program to present her project about reducing the emissions of the compound causing the excess carbon monoxide.

Laura’s dream is about to come true. Thanks to the support of Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon and the UANL Foundation, Laura will go to Huntsville, Alabama, to prove herself. This awesome opportunity could send her to NASA headquarters in Houston, by the end of 2022.

The UANL School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering is where Laura currently studies Aeronautical Engineering. In 2019, she attended an event related to aeronautical engineering and it was there when the project was born. This idea eventually place her among the 60 students selected worldwide to become an internet at NASA.

Sustainability

Guajardo Villarreal’s project consists of combining sustainability with aeronautics. Her proposal is to substitute a chemical compound contained in the fuel used in the aerospace industry that releases a large amount of carbon monoxide.

In 2019 I first heard about this call for proposals when I attended the Feria Aeroespacial Mexicana. We were asked to present a proposal and a project addressing a problem in the aerospace industry.

Established in 2013, the Air and Space Program (IASP) is a five-day program held every November in Alabama. There is still no exact date for this edition, but if she obtains good results, Guajardo Villarreal could be close to participating in the Artemis mission, which would put the first woman on the moon.
