UANL Students claim Top Honors at MOOT México

University students from Nuevo León won the MOOT Mexico competition by showcasing their advocacy skills in a simulated commercial arbitration.

Four students from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) won first place in the 23rd edition of the International Commercial Arbitration Competition (MOOT Mexico) held in Mexico City.

Founded in 2002, Moot Mexico has become a leading educational initiative for university students in Mexico and other Spanish-speaking countries, designed to accurately simulate real-world commercial arbitration.

UANL President Santos Guzman Lopez congratulated students Andres Sanchez Padilla, Daniel Maldonado, Daniela Nava Cabañas, and Javier Ceja Moreno—eighth-semester students at the Faculty of Law and Criminology—for their outstanding performance and strong advocacy skills in the competition.

He added that their participation in Moot Mexico positions them as ambassadors of the academic excellence fostered at Nuevo León’s leading university.

On the Path to professional success

Over the years, the MOOT México competition has become one of the leading forums for the promotion of arbitration in Latin America. The competition includes drafting a statement of claim, a statement of defense, and a counterclaim, as well as simulating arbitration hearings before a tribunal composed of expert arbitrators.

Andres Sanchez Padilla noted that the competition jury was composed of leading figures in national and international arbitration. He affirmed that participating in the event brings him closer to practicing his profession on a daily basis, supported by an international panel of experts.

This competition was an unforgettable experience. We gained valuable skills in teamwork, working under pressure, rigorous study, and thorough preparation, making it truly enriching. It also represents an important milestone, as it allowed us to connect with professionals in the field who can support our career development and future employment opportunities.
