UANL International Animal Husbandry Workshop 2022

Scientists coming from different nations showed at the UANL International Animal Husbandry Workshop 2022 the results of their studies concerning issues derived from the decrease in goat production in recent years.

According to Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, goat farming has dropped in recent years in Mexico and Nuevo Leon.

Figures from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI) support this claim on a national level since in the last three years the number of heads of this type of herd was 41,700 (2019), 32,563 (2020) and 29,186 (2021).

This also results in a decrease in the value of meat production in thousands of pesos, being 40,126 in 2019, 33,370 in 2020, and 32,983 in 2021.

In view of this scenario, the Maximum Academic Institution in the State held the UANL International Animal Husbandry Workshop 2022, where eight scientists of national and international prestige met to address this problem.

Solution Showcase
For this 5th edition of the UANL International Animal Husbandry Workshop, researchers from Croatia, Argentina, Brazil, and Mexico shared on November 17 their scientific progress and results in the field of goat breeding.

Therefore, the objective of this workshop is to contribute to the solution of problems and to provide information on how to face the challenges of growing and trading this product”.

Ramon Guajardo Quiroga

Ramon Guajardo Quiroga, also an agronomist, explained that currently goat farming is a dual activity where on the one hand there is the highly technified and productive activity with access to science, and on the other hand there is the so-called rustic activity, where knowledge is transmitted from parents to children.
