Tigres conquers FISU America e-Sports

UANL students Ailín de Jesús Escobedo and Joaquín González renewed the development of e-sports among the university community by being crowned champion and runner-up of the FISU America FIFA 22 Tournament.

Following the success of e-sports tournaments at UANL, our University made this discipline official and Tigres gamers have consolidated their participation in tournaments of national and international stature.

Ailin de Jesus Escobedo Vazquez and Joaquin Gonzalez Gonzalez Gonzalez won the Women’s championship and Runner-up in the men’s category. Gamers from all over Latin America participated in the FIFA 22 Tournament, organized through the International University Sports Federation (FISU America).

Ailin de Jesús Escobedo Vazquez, a student of UANL School of Physical Education (FOD), was crowned twice champion of this tournament after an 8-2 victory over Ximena Alcaraz, also from Mexico.

With almost three years in the practice of e-sports, Ailin de Jesus (Ailinesc06, on Twitter and Twitch) achieved outstanding results that led her to be part of the Mazatlan women’s team of the E-Sport Liga Mx.

FISU’s tournament is a unique experience. The way they organize and carry out the event is impressive. There are matches with students from other countries and you can’t even imagine how far you can go playing FIFA. It was a pleasure to participate and I am grateful for the way I was treated, but the best thing is to represent UANL and Tigres in this type of event.

A top-level champion
Leonardo Joaquin Gonzalez Gonzalez
is a student of the UANL School of Civil Engineering. He has been a gamer since he was eight years old and runner-up in the FIFA 22 Tournament endorsed by FISU America, in addition to being a member of Tigres’ men’s e-sports.

He was also champion in his first intramural tournament with the Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo Bilingüe (CIDEB) and later was a representative and champion with Castores of the UANL School of Civil Engineering. These achievements led him to wear the blue and gold of our university.

E-sports at the university level gives you visibility abroad with professional teams since there is intense competition among the students. We are also aware that studying is essential for our professional development, but it is also gratifying to have victories in these tournaments since they give us a good ranking and bring us closer to the professional level”.

Leonardo Joaquin Gonzalez Gonzalez

He was pleased to hear that e-sports are among the official sports at UANL.

“There is a high level of competition at the University, as there have been students who have reached the finals of important tournaments. I find this is relevant since these triumphs are fostering in the students the winning mindset”.
