Porfirio Tamez Honored as Librarian by FIL Guadalajara in 2023

José Porfirio Tamez Solís, the former Head of the University Library “Raúl Rangel Frías” (BURRF), was honored with the Librarian Recognition 2023 at the Guadalajara International Book Fair.

The event took place as part of the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León’s 90th-anniversary celebrations on November 29. It was hosted at the “Juan Rulfo” Auditorium on the first floor of Expo Guadalajara.

Tamez Solís has been a university worker for over 50 years, allowing him to assert that the librarian’s formation persists through professional practice. Since his youth, he embarked on a journey of learning from great masters in a profession that engages with an infinite array of subjects.

Being amidst books, the librarian is in constant contact with a multitude of subjects. It was during this time that I came to realize the boundless nature of human knowledge. Beyond fostering a sense of community, books have the power to unite families. Each user discovers books that resonate with them; in fact, the best book to read is the one that captivates the individual user’s interest”.

Leader of an Exceptional Team

The General Director of Libraries at UANL believes that books should be read without restrictions or guidelines. Consequently, the primary role of the librarian is to promote reading, a pivotal function carried out by the BURRF. This is made possible through the support of a diverse and multidisciplinary team comprised of graduates in visual arts, architecture, literature, cultural management, law, and, of course, information technology.

“When I received the news, it had a profound impact on me—a personal, intimate feeling—because I have been acquainted with the book fair practically since its inception. Many years ago, I proposed to the then Rector to participate in the Guadalajara FIL to showcase our publishing production.”
