Experts study gender-based violence against women in politics

The study conducted among state congresswomen, with the support of the UANL Institute of Social Research, shows the conditions of inequality and lack of solidarity experienced by women in politics.

The UANL School of Psychology held the International Congress of Equity and Gender and one of the many activities of the event, the UANL Institute of Social Research presented the conference ” La violencia política hacia las mujeres en el Primer congreso paritario de Nuevo León” by Maria Luisa Martinez Sanchez.

At the meeting, the results of a study were published. The research is based on interviews conducted by researchers from our university and from different academic institutions in Nuevo Leon with male and female legislators during the aforementioned congress.

María Luisa Martínez noted that political violence against women can be traced back to the moment when they had the opportunity to cast their vote and be elected; however, the awareness of this form of violence has been a slow but intense process.
