Alondra Fraustro at Climate Summit 2025

UANL teacher Alondra Fraustro joined 500 delegates from around the world at the Global Youth Climate Summit 2025

For her contributions to promoting and applying science in environmental education, Alondra Jazmín Fraustro Cardiel, a faculty member at High School 3 of Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León, represented Mexico at the Global Youth Climate Summit 2025 in Brazil.

“This event gave me the opportunity to network and connect with others who are passionate about environmental issues, while also allowing me to further educate myself in the search for solutions to today’s environmental challenges.”

Alondra was selected to attend thanks to her initiative, Ciencia Mágica, a project she founded in 2019 while pursuing a degree in Bacteriological and Parasitological Chemistry at UANL’s School of Biological Sciences. Through this project, she aimed to bring science beyond the laboratory and apply it to environmental education.

First green initiatives

Alondra’s first experience with sustainability began in high school at UANL’s High School 2, where she took part in recycling events, sustainability campaigns, and other related projects.

“Since I was very young, I have been interested in science. My favorite subjects have always been biology and chemistry,” said Fraustro Cardiel.

Her passion for science, combined with her desire to contribute to society, led her to pursue an undergraduate degree in Parasitological and Bacteriological Chemistry at the School of Biological Sciences.

“When we are students, we often don’t realize the incredible potential we have. We tend to think we need to be much greater to represent Mexico and take part in events like the ones I’m currently involved in, and have throughout my time with Ciencia Mágica. My message to others is that nothing is impossible—go after your dreams.”
