The Office of the Vice President for Sustainability at the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León is extending an invitation to the university community to take part in the 2024 edition of the Best Sustainability Project Award.

Elegibility

Groups consisting of active students, professors, or employees from one or more UANL departments are welcome to participate in this project competition.

Project requirements

The project proposal must adhere to the following guidelines:

• Title and Participants: Specify the project name and the roles of each participant.
• Objective
• Introduction: Introduce the project’s focus and significance within one of the sustainability realms: social, economic, or environmental. Discuss its impact on the university community, such as energy efficiency, green space creation or enhancement, water conservation, waste management, and operational security system improvements.
• Methodology: Detail the project’s methodology, including a schedule outlining the timeframe for completing each activity. You may include supporting documents or graphic materials.
• Estimated Financial Investment: Provide an approximate budget required for project implementation.
• Submission Format: Prepare the proposal in digital PDF format. Deliver it on a USB drive enclosed in a sealed envelope labeled with the project name, participants’ names, and their affiliations. The USB will be returned after the contest concludes.

Prize

The prize comprises an economic award of $50,000.00 (fifty thousand pesos), generated from the electronic recycling initiatives led by the Directorate of Environmental Management and Operational Safety within the Secretariat of Sustainability at the Autonomous University of Nuevo Leon. This amount will be awarded annually during an official ceremony to fund the best sustainability project selected from submissions by members of the UANL community. Winning participants may allocate up to 20% of the total prize amount as an economic stimulus among themselves.

Contest Mechanics and Schedule

The announcement will be posted on the second Friday of March on the website and social media channels of the Secretariat of Sustainability. Proposals will be accepted until the first Thursday of May at the Centro de Investigación para el Desarrollo Sustentable, located at Av. Guerrero No. 156 Norte, Col. Cuauhtémoc, San Nicolás de los Garza NL. Submissions will be received from Monday to Friday, between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm.

Results

The evaluation results will be announced at the Sustainability Liaison Meeting scheduled for June 2024. During this event, the monetary prize for the winning project will be awarded. Following the ceremony, the list of participating projects will be published on the Secretariat for Sustainability’s website.
