UANL Research Award 2019
Imagine for a moment a new device able to combat harmful gas emissions while cleans polluted water, and converts carbon dioxide into new source of energy. Let us keep dreaming with the possibility of killing cancer cells or using silk fibroin to build bones.
These are some of the latest researches that were awarded this last August 14th with the UANL Research Award 2019. Nine research projects out of 102 are collaborating in seven knowledge areas: health sciences, earth sciences, exact sciences, natural sciences, social sciences, humanities, engineering, and technology.
These research projects have been published in international scientific journals. Since 1981 this contest has been in place, it starts in November and has three stages: regional, national, and international. Explained Juan Manuel Alcocer Gonzalez, head of Scientific and Tecnological research program at UANL.
Research centers and academics received an economic incentive of 125 thousand pesos. This year, social and exact sciences were also granted with it.

“Bacteroidales como alternativa confiable para determinar contaminación fecal en frutas y hortalizas” was the research developed by Dr. Norma Laura Heredia Rojas and Jose Santos Garcia from the School of Biology
Dr. Leticia Torres Guerra a 23 times winner of the UANL research award has this year been awarded for her research: “Conversión de CO2 en combustibles de base solar como estrategia de frontera para la generación sustentable de energía mediante sistemas fotocatalíticos avanzados”.
Alí Huerta Flores who is closely working with Torres Guerra, has also been awarded with his research “Heteroestructuras fotofuncionales hibridas con eficiencias elevadas en procesos para el desarrollo sustentable de energia limpia, agua y medio ambiente’’
In this category, the award has gone to Dr. Blanca Margarita Muñoz Flores and her research team from the School of Chemistry with the project ’Obtencion de compuestos de boro fluorescentes no toxicos, mediante sintesis sutentable para su uso como dopante en un biomaterial’’.
Klender Aimer Cortez Alejandro and Martha del Pilar Rodriguez García, have been awarded with the research project ‘’Intervencion cambiaria en Mexico y su impacto en la incertidumbre: aplicacion en el mercado peso-dolar’’
