San Diego Padres sign UANL baseball players

The Major League Baseball team signed two UANL students to try out for its Rookie League affiliate based in the Dominican Republic.

Angel Garza and Aldo Leija, both 17-year-old pitchers, share this professional challenge and the dream of reaching the Big League.

Ángel Román Garza Cantú and Aldo Leija Villarreal have a lot in common: they are both 17 years old, studied together at High School 22, play baseball as pitchers, and recently signed for the San Diego Padres.

Both are young men who have come a long way in the sport, from little league to college tournaments, national championships, and even at the professional level. Their story serves as an example for those who pursue the dream of making it to a major league team.

After signing with the San Diego Padres, Angel Garza and Aldo Leija will travel to the Dominican Republic to spend a month in development, where they will demonstrate that they can be promoted to Arizona and continue with their dream.

Joining a Major League team is something I’ve dreamed of all my life, all kids who play baseball always dream of one day playing in the Major Leagues, and now that I’m very close to it, I can’t let it go”.

Ángel Román Garza Cantú.

I certainly pictured myself with a team like the San Diego Padres. I knew I had to work hard to be here. At first, baseball was just a hobby for me, I really enjoy baseball. It was totally different once I signed the contract. Now I took it like a professional sport.

Aldo Leija Villarreal.
