UANL wins international robotics tournament.

Students from Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL) won first place for Mexico in the RoboCup 2021 International Tournament, in the Junior OnStage category.

The winners are José Emiliano Flores Martínez, Héctor Adrián Moya Guerrero, Luis Fernando Gutiérrez Dewar, Humberto Barrera Martínez and Alejandro Rodríguez Rodríguez, students from the Center for Research and Development of Bilingual Education (CIDEB), under the mentorship of Professor Érick Sánchez Flores.

In competition before 14 countries from America, Asia, Europe, and Oceania, the UANL representative team won with a performance based on the movie Jurassic Park and a display of technology and creativity, with five autonomous robots.

Virtual Tournament

The 2021 edition of the international tournament was held virtually from June 22 to 28. Due to the pandemic; a situation that imposed new challenges for the design, manufacture, programming, and performance on stage of robotic devices.

Passion for robotics
For Erick Sanchez Flores, the key to the successful completion of this championship was the correct planning and perseverance at work, as well as the passion for robotics, along with the support of the University authorities.

What were the lessons learned from RoboCup 2021?
We took a lot away with us. From what we each learned based on what we worked on, to what we learned from talking with colleagues from other countries. Also, I think we all took away a lesson on the value of teamwork and the leadership needed when interacting with different teams to achieve common goals.

How do you feel about the victory?
It was a unique experience, and although we all would have liked to have experienced it under better conditions, without Pandemic, and on-site, it was a week that no one in the team will ever forget. The victory in the competition leaves us satisfied for having gathered the outcome of many months of work. We are also happy for being able to represent our school, our beloved UANL, and our country in a way that is worthy of it.
