These kinds of events will be more common than ever in the coming years and fresh, drinkable water is highly appreciated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This served as motivation for Raul Acosta Murillo, who is now studying Biotechnology and Genomics. He attempts to find a solution and at the same time get the opportunity to participate with his biofilter prototype at the Science Fair.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-80181\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/uanl-2022-descalinizador-bioflitro-athena-raul-acosta-murillo-herber-torres-cordero-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cOne of the main issues the world is facing has to do with freshwater shortage, meanwhile seawater is everywhere\u201d, <\/em>explained the award winner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBiofiltro de anclaje s\u00edlice en E. colli para la recuperaci\u00f3n de iones de sodio en agua salada\u201d is the name of the project with wich Heber Torres (project advisor) and Raul won first place.<\/p>\n<h2>New lines of research<\/h2>\n<p>Dr. Heber Torres, who is a specialist in genetic modification, said that there are endless possibilities of adding desalination qualities to this or other bacterias. This is just the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>During the interview in the Synthetic Biology Lab, Heber says that one of the key facts of this field of study is the adaptability or module capabilities of genes.
