Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Leon<\/a> was present at the ANUIES 2021 International Conference “University Governance: Articulating axis of an equitable, inclusive and quality higher education”<\/a>, held from November 10 to 12 in Tijuana, Mexico.<\/p>\n

UANL President Dr. med. Santos Guzm\u00e1n L\u00f3pez attended the event of the National Association of Universities and Higher Education Institutions (ANUIES)<\/a> to moderate the conference “The Challenges of Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean”, during the second day of the conference given by Dr. Francesc Pedr\u00f3, Director of UNESCO’s International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (IESALC).<\/p>\n

The Director of UNESCO’s International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean stated that the fundamental principles of the United Nations are that education is a public good; that there is a universal right of access for all and that the State must protect this principle.<\/p>\n

Finally, he noted that the net figures for access to higher education indicate that the average in Latin America is 15 percent of the population with real possibilities of accessing higher education.<\/p>\n

Mobility and internationalization<\/h2>\n

The third emerging area for Higher Education Institutions in Latin America is the window of opportunity for all countries to further promote the mobility and internationalization of their students, teachers, and study programs.<\/p>\n

In addition, it was noted that 80 percent of Latin American students who decide to complement their studies outside their countries come to Argentina to complete their undergraduate and graduate studies.<\/p>\n

Sustainability; a commitment to the world<\/h2>\n

In the last part of the report, Dr. Pedr\u00f3 mentioned that he does not have a certain percentage figure on sustainability in Latin American universities, since they do not yet have measurement instruments, though it is an important issue for the coming decades.<\/p>\n

“You have the commitment of Unesco to try to establish some kind of metric to document progress. Measuring it is very important,” said Dr. Francesc.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
