Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon won through unprecedented achievements the 2019 National University Championships for the fourteenth consecutive year.<\/p>\n
With a total of 143 medals and a score of 2,040 points, the UANL Tigres teams are now sixteen-time national champions. The athletes finished the seventeen-day competition with 49 gold medals, 43 silver medals, and 51 bronze medals.<\/p>\n
In athletics, Diego del Real, Jose Padilla, and Jonathan Absalon gave a historic performance as they earned the gold, silver, and bronze medals in hammer throw, respectively. 200 meter runner Juan Carlos Alanis also excelled in his discipline and obtained the gold medal. With these results, Alanis and Del Real said goodbye to their last National University Championships.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s biggest accomplishments were the victories in women’s and men’s handball. Both teams claimed the top step of the podium for the first time in the competition\u2019s history.<\/p>\n
Another important breakthrough was made by the women\u2019s fencing team. For the first time, they ended Universidad de Guadalajara\u2019s longtime domination of the \u00e9p\u00e9e and sabre disciplines. UANL fencer Vanessa Infante had an outstanding participation in this success.<\/p>\n
During the last day of the competition, the women\u2019s flag football team defeated the Universidad Autonoma de Baja California team, earning their second consecutive title.<\/p>\n
The Tigres teams conclude the 2019 National University Championships as absolute winners in handball, athletics, taekwondo, aerobic gymnastics, and boxing, in women\u2019s fencing, flag football, and beach volleyball, and in men\u2019s weightlifting and judo.<\/p>\n
Once again, Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon becomes the national touchstone of university athletics and many of its athletes are expected to qualify to the 2019 Summer Universiade that will be held in Naples, Italy.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
