{"id":116972,"date":"2026-08-04T11:44:47","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T17:44:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/?post_type=noticias&#038;p=116972"},"modified":"2026-08-04T11:52:37","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T17:52:37","slug":"uanl-high-school-students-selected-for-nasa-space-academy","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/en\/noticias\/uanl-high-school-students-selected-for-nasa-space-academy\/","title":{"rendered":"UANL High School Students selected for NASA Space Academy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Eight students <\/strong>from\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/uanl.mx\/\">Universidad Aut\u00f3noma de Nuevo Le\u00f3n<\/a>\u00a0(UANL) fulfilled their dream of visiting the <strong>U.S<\/strong>.<strong> Space and Rocket Center <\/strong>to learn the principles of rocketry and propulsion on a scale model, design prototypes of lunar landers, and participate in simulation missions to resolve technical emergencies in real time.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-117798 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NASA3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Through this initiative\u2014the result of a collaboration between Nuevo Le\u00f3n\u2019s premier university, the U.S. Embassy in Mexico, and the Televisa Foundation\u2014the UANL high school students stood out among<strong> 340 young people <\/strong>who applied for the Monterrey program between <strong>June and July 2025<\/strong>, thanks to their technical knowledge of space and their creativity in developing digital tools.<\/p>\n<p>To achieve this goal, the students passed various evaluation stages and completed courses in mobile app development, Arduino programming, the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, the design of a patch to represent a space mission, and a video application featuring a scientific experiment and their reasons for joining the academy, reported Sandra del R\u00edo Mu\u00f1oz, Director of the UANL Upper Secondary Education System.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117796\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NASA2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>In total, 32 high school students from across the country\u2014from Monterrey, Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Quer\u00e9taro\u2014traveled to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama, the official training site for the Space Camp program affiliated with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nasa.gov\/\">NASA\u2019s<\/a> Marshall Space Flight Center.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117804\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NASA4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For Luisa Valentina Guti\u00e9rrez Jaimes, her interest in science and innovation was born through the Tecnolochicas program, so visiting \u201cRocket City\u201d was an experience she will remember as one of the best of her life.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-117807\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/NASA5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For Luis Alejandro D\u00edaz Guerrero, his curiosity to learn about the universe and hear explanations of everything related to space missions was a dream come true on his path to pursuing a degree in mechatronics engineering.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The program also represents an opportunity to launch the students\u2019 international careers through English language instruction and the promotion of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields.
