{"id":107160,"date":"2025-01-30T09:30:40","date_gmt":"2025-01-30T15:30:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/?post_type=noticias&#038;p=107160"},"modified":"2025-01-30T09:30:40","modified_gmt":"2025-01-30T15:30:40","slug":"uanl-leading-the-way-in-sustainability-nationwide","status":"publish","type":"noticias","link":"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/en\/noticias\/uanl-leading-the-way-in-sustainability-nationwide\/","title":{"rendered":"UANL Leading the way in Sustainability nationwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to its commitment to promoting a sustainable lifestyle, Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon secured the top spot among Mexican universities in the Green Metric 2024 ranking for the eighth consecutive year.<\/p>\n<p>Being ranked number one reflects our goal to instill a sustainability mindset in every student and graduate \u2014 that\u2019s what we aim for,&#8221; said Santos Guzman Lopez, UANL President.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the idea that institutions play a vital role in combating climate change, the Green Metric ranking was established in 2010 by the University of Indonesia to identify universities most committed to environmental initiatives. The state&#8217;s top university has participated in the ranking since 2012.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-107167\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/sust2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Achievements to Date<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>In line with its commitment to sustainability, UANL focuses on four key areas: <strong>energy management, water conservation, recycling, and environmental education<\/strong>. These efforts are detailed in the annual report from the UANL Office of the Vice President for Sustainability.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-107169\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/sust3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Thanks to its stringent energy efficiency standards, 100% of its buildings are equipped with energy-efficient systems, including high-efficiency air conditioning and lighting, which result in significant energy savings and a reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By 2025, UANL plans to install 12,000 solar panels to supply the campuses with clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>For waste management, UANL takes responsibility for all types of waste generated on its campuses, from food waste to waste produced during laboratory activities.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-107171\" src=\"https:\/\/www.uanl.mx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/sust4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In 2023 alone, <strong>230.33 tons of recyclable materials were collected<\/strong>, leading to energy savings of 934,978 kWh and a reduction of 6,327,861 liters of water usage.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to its commitment to promoting a sustainable lifestyle, Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon secured the top spot among Mexican universities in the Green Metric 2024 ranking for the eighth consecutive year.
