UANL wins Robocup 2017
Students of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon were crowned as absolute champions of the Robocup 2017 on July 30th in Nagoya, Japan.
For the second time, students of the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon conquered the first place in the International Robotics Tournament.
Team Kanto of the Center for Research and Development of Bilingual Education, achieved the championship for Mexico, in the category of Robocup Junior Onstage Secondary.
Brenda Guadalupe de la Cruz Rivas, Elizabeth Guerrero Mendoza, Miguel Andrés Pinal Rodríguez, Juan Carlos Garza Sánchez, Juan Carlos Garza López, Juan Pedro Lozano, are the UANL students who achieved the World Championship during the competence 27 to 30 July in the city of Nagoya, Japan.
The coach Erick Sánchez Flores, mentioned that they faced the teams of 21 countries some of them were: Germany, Brasil, Korea, China, Egypt, Spain, India, Israel, Japan, Russia, and Switzerland.
The category Onstage Secondary consists of three phases, the first that is called Open Technical Demonstration is about presenting to the audience and judges all technical details that are used during performance. Team Kanto obtained 37.2 out of 40 possible points.
During the second phase called Technical Interview the panel of specialized judges graded Team Kanto with 19 out of 20 points.
In the third phase, the UANL students presented a very special performance as closing act at the exhibition hall in Nagoya, Japan. In Pokemon land, animated robots such as Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle, came out of their pokeball dancing along with the UANL students.
The judges evaluated the robotic devices that interacted through sensors and engines, to the rhythm of the chosen theme. In this phase, the team Kanto’s performance obtained 32 units out of 88.2 possible points and give Mexico the first place. The average of the other countries was of 61.08 points.
Two years ago, the UANL-CIDEB obtained for Mexico the Best Performance with “The Magic of Frozen”, in the Robocup China 2015; besides the first place in the category “Super Team International Dance of the Year”, in collaboration with competitors from Panama and Sweden, and for maintaining a spirit of solidarity and a positive attitude they were acknowledge with the “Special Award for Best Team Collegiality”.
Fifth position in rescue robots
In the Rescue Robots category, the UANL students obtained the fifth place with their Camelot and Libby prototypes.
The CIDEB Team Magistry is the first and only Mexican team participating in this new category. Team members are Alan Morales Nájera, Héctor Barba Hernández, Gerardo Elí Medrano Díaz, Israel Espinoza Báez, Annasylvia Cuevas Luna y Brenda Elizabeth del Razo Urdiales.
Flavio Guerrero Elizondo, professor at the High School 18 and student Luis Gonzalo Morales, who is a student at the School of Physics and Mathematics, represented the UANL as international judges.
