2010. Bicentenario de la Independencia, Centenario de la Revolución
Con orgullo universitario festejamos México

The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) is the third largest Mexican university and the most important public one with the largest academic offer in the northeast part of the country. In 2009, it was ranked by the national newspaper “El Universal”, as the fifth best Mexican University.
The UANL is one of the oldest universities in Mexico, beginning in 1824 as a law school and establishing both the Academy and the Medicine School in 1859. Through the years, its reputation for outstanding academic achievement has become known throughout the whole country, and it reflects the intellectual achievement of its students, as well as the innovative research carried out by its faculty.
In 2008 we celebrated our 75th anniversary; 75 years of being the home for science and culture in Nuevo León, and the engine for progressive education and social change in Northeast Mexico.
The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León has the core mission of forming technicians, professionals, professors and researchers, as well as performing and fostering scientific research in its basic and applied forms, taking into account both regional and national problems. It also organizes, takes part in and foments artistic creation in its diverse forms of expression, in addition to creating a link between the community and culture, plus contributing to the preservation of cultural, national and universal patrimony.
Our vision synthesizes aspiration and institutional commitment to strengthening the quality of education:
"By the year 2012, we will be acknowledged as the most prestigious public Mexican university, both nationally and internationally".
"I consider it particularly appropriate that we meet in Monterrey, a dynamic locus of business and industry, but also a city with a higher concentration of colleges and universities per capita than anywhere else in Mexico; a place where the traditions of yesterday and the promises of tomorrow go hand in hand. It's Tower of Commerce, which is the tallest monument in Mexico, symbolizes high aspirations for this country and a future of prosperity we hope to build and share." Thomas F. McLarty
These words from January 2004 by the President of Kissinger-McLarty Associates, Thomas F. McLarty; in his conference at the Summit of the Americas, still symbolize the entrepreneur spirit of Monterrey as an international city of knowledge.
Monterrey (Monterrey Metro area) is a city of great cultural and business activity with a variable climate and many possibilities for ecotourism and adventure sports. It is considered one of the most important commercial and technological centers of Latin America. It is known as the industrial capital of Mexico, and it’s most important industries include beer, cement, glass, steel, and food products. It is one of the most accessible cities in the country. The city is overlooked by an impressive natural wonder, the majestic mountains of the Eastern Sierra Madre range and Cerro de la Silla (Saddle Mountain), which is the symbol of the city.

It also has many theaters, art galleries and sporting events, as well as regional and international restaurants.

The Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León (UANL) is located in the Monterrey metro area, which is an important industrial city in the state of Nuevo León. Nuevo León is in the northeastern region of the country and borders the Mexican states of Coahuila, San Luis Potosí, and Tamaulipas, plus Texas in the United States of America.
Our University has a main campus known as Ciudad Universitaria, and six additional campuses in the Monterrey-metro area and in the state of Nuevo León.
The Main Campus is located in San Nicolás de los Garza (San Nicolas for short) and houses the Office of the University President and the administrative system in the Administration Tower (Rectoria). In addition, it houses 13 collages, a stadium, two main libraries, the central COOP and bookstore, many computer centers and cafeterias. Also it contains a number of research institutes, auditoriums and gymnasiums and sports facilities in a great extension surrounded by beautiful grounds.
On the Health Sciences-campus located 15 min west of the main campus, the health-related schools are located, including the colleges of: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Public Health and Nutrition, the UANL Personnel-clinic and our “Dr. Jose Eleuterio Gonzalez” University Hospital. This Campus has one of the most important research facilities of the University, the Center for Research and Development in Health Sciences.
The Mederos-campus is located 20 minutes south of Ciudad Universitaria; it is comprised of the colleges of Communication Sciences, Music, Political Sciences, Stage Arts, Veterinary Medicine, Visual Arts, and the school of Economy. In addition, it has other facilities such as the Center for Physical Preparation of teachers and students, the General Direction of Planning and Strategic Projects, the University Theatre, the Research Center for Bilingual Education (CIDEB) and the World Trade Center.
Outside the Monterrey-metro area, the Marín-campus with the Agriculture School is located 40 minutes east of Ciudad Universitaria; there. The Linares-campus (two hours south of Ciudad Universitaria) is home to the Colleges of Forestry and Earth Sciences, plus a branch of the School of Accounting and Business Administration.
Branches of the schools of Law and Business are located in the campus Sabinas Hidalgo, one hour of main campus.
Additionally, UANL has an Agricultural Sciences Campus, for the Schools of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine in Escobedo county.

As the first higher education institution founded in Monterrey, and because of its leadership in every aspect of academic and cultural life of Nuevo León, the UANL maintains a continuous dialogue with agents and representatives of diverse sectors of society in order to be aware of the opinions, necessities, suggestions and expectations of the community, so as to enable our university to respond with quality and efficiency to the demands of society in preparing professionals with a lifelong education.
Our institution works together with associated organizations in the state of Nuevo León which have an impact on higher education in Mexico.
With over 390 national researchers (Spanish initials SNI) awarded by Mexico’s National Council for Science and Technology (Spanish initials CONACYT), and more than 400 ongoing basic and applied research projects, the UANL is the strongest research-university in northeastern Mexico. The number of SNI researchers at our institution is higher than that of all public and private institutions combined in Nuevo León. We publish more than eight peer-reviewed journals in different fields of knowledge, and our researchers publish more than 300 papers in indexed journals annually.
With the highest investment by CONACyT (2009) for a Mexican university regarding University-Enterprise Projects, UANL keeps innovation and collaborative work with public and private productive sectors. The World Trade Center – UANL, advises small and medium enterprises and the Center for Business Incubation and Technology Transfer, maintains constant contact with entrepreneurs, investors and inventors.
In addition, each year more than 10,000 social service providers, who are students of UANL, bring their knowledge and enthusiasm to projects of public and private companies, to build a link with the society they belong and where most of them, probably keep working there.
Our institution has a commitment to the community and the city at large through the encouragement and support of creative and cultural expression. Radio Universidad (89.7 FM) is striving to become an indispensable service to the student body, and as an innovator in college radio serving society both regionally and nationally. CANAL 53, the UANL’s television channel can be viewed both via regional broadcasting and on cable TV throughout the country, profiling students’ work and giving them a national presence. Our institution has an on-line art gallery called Space of Art, which is the online version of the monthly exhibitions at the main administration building.
“The university is the only institution of higher education in the state that contributes to cultural wealth and spread it through their schools, colleges, libraries, publications, conferences, performing arts, plastic and its orchestra.”
José Emilio Amores, Mexican writer (2008)
The programs, services and facilities for campus life at our institution are designed to enhance the overall university experience. A harmonious environment is maintained among employees, professors, researchers and students at our institution. Classes can be complemented by athletic and cultural activities, since we have excellent sports facilities and outstanding extracurricular activities.
