The Department of Athletics (DGD) of UANL is currently headed by Jaime Cesar Vallejo Salinas. On the other hand, Jose Alberto Perez Garcia is the deputy director.

There are other departments that work in close coordination with the DGD: the Department of Representative Teams headed by Margarita Bautista Espejo; the Department of Intrauniversity Tournaments coordinated by Marco Antonio Alcazar Diaz; the Department of Operations led by Juan Felipe Perez; and the Department of Quality, coordinated by Melissa Ann Gonzalez Barragan.

The Departments of Communication and Image coordinated by Manuel S. Gonzalez Guerrero; the Department of Sports Medicine, headed by Jorge A. Mendoza L.; the Department of Management, whose person in charge is Alfonso Pena Muzquiz; the Department of High Performance Sports coordinated by Juan Garcia Verazaluce; and the Department of Adapted Sports headed by Yeny Leticia Hinojosa Quezada.


The Department of Athletics provides services to students with the objective of contributing to their integral education and guaranteeing excellent results in sports.

In 1945, the DGD began as a Coordinating Office for Physical Education, taking the name of ‘Tigres’ with gold and blue colors.

Its first leaders were Enrique Westrup, Raymundo ‘Chico’ Rivera Villarreal, Rodolfo Trevino, Hector Zamacona Escandon and Roberto Escamilla.

In 1973, it received the name of Department of Athletics being Cayetano Garza Garza the director until 1992. The succeeding directors were Javier Meza Flores from 1992 to 1996, Javier Meza Flores from 1996 to 2001, Q.B.P. Rosendo Salas Villarreal from 2001 to 2003, and Jaime Cesar Vallejo Salinas who is currently the head of this department.

In 1980 offices were moved to the Gaspar Mass stadium and since 2010 they are based in the DGD Administrative Tower, located in the northeast of the Main Campus.

Our University has 31 sport disciplines at senior (Higher Education) and youth (Upper Intermediate Education) levels for men and women categories, and for about one thousand students –athletes who are part of 'Tigres' teams.

Senior level teams participate in CONDDE's National Student 'Universiada' (Universiade) of Higher Education; they also compete in state, regional, national and international championships in Mexico and in tournaments invitations. Youth level teams participate in the state, regional and national process for the National Sports Games of Upper Intermediate Education.
